I wasn’t expecting fanfare, or to find a ball and chain magically attached to my left ankle… but being married really doesn’t feel any different!! It’s not a bad thing, but I keep looking down at the little carved loop of palladium that now sits on my ring finger and thinking, ‘oh yeah, I’m married!’ It’s all quite surreal.

We had such an amazing wedding. I won’t give too much away, as I want to wait until I have all the photographs and paraphernalia to show you, but it was a crazy week full of family, laughter, good food, animals, dancing and roasting hot weather (how lucky?!!). Our wedding photographer, the epic Pete Cranston, was more of a guest than anything else – he even tied the bow on my bouquet for me! – and I can’t wait to see what photographic delights are hiding away on his many memory cards (I’ve seen a couple of sneak peeks and they are very exciting indeed!).

our Caws Cenarth wedding cheese cake was a complete hit (as was the rest of the dessert table)! The base is an old metal garden sieve.

As is to be expected, some things went to plan and others didn’t (e.g. ran out of time to do my hair the way I wanted), some things we’d shelled out for got used and others didn’t (my wedding suspender belt and stockings being among them – WAY too hot for any of that nonsense!), but in the end it just wasn’t important. Everything about our wedding was perfect in its own imperfect way, and it was quintessentially ‘us’.

Flower fail

I tried to grow my own wedding flowers, but having only got engaged at Christmas, I knew it would be touch-and-go as to whether anything would be ready. In the end, I had five sweet peas, a handful of ammi majus and five stems of bupleurum – hardly a weddings worth of flowers!! Thankfully, the farm hedgerows were abundant and brimming with foliage and flowers alike. I have no idea what most of them were, so hopefully none of them were poisonous – no reports of guest illnesses as yet! I had also ordered quite a few dried flowers (my bouquet was dried lavender with delphiniums, roses and gypsophila), which were a godsend.

All the flowers were put together by myself and my mum the day before the wedding, and I have to confess that, if I had my time again, I would definitely pay a florist to do the button holes. They looked amazing and everyone commented on them, but I was still making them at 11am on the morning of the wedding and it was an added stress that I didn’t really need. Aaahhh, the wonder of hindsight.

Typically, returning from our Welsh ‘minimoon’ on Tuesday, we found that the whole allotment seemed to have burst into flower – I picked myself this rather lovely bunch…

It’s no bother though, as I’m planning on selling any surplus flowers at the farm gate throughout the summer holidays, so keep an eye out if you’re passing through the St Brides Bay area!

Speaking of selling, once I get my bottom in to gear, I will be selling on a lot of our wedding bits and bobs, including white pom poms, linen napkins, picnic blankets, garden games, carafes… etc etc. Some will go on eBay and others will go into the Little House in Town shop in Narberth. I’ll post pictures and links as soon as everything is ready (i.e. after I’ve refolded thirty pom poms! :S).

I’m catching up with Charlie of TNWC for pizza tonight, she’s on her hols in our neck of the woods with her mister. Having connected with each other through our blogs, we’ve only actually met once before, but we chat so much by email that I kind of feel like we’re old friends! I’m guessing there’s going to be quite a lot of wedding and baby talk going on… I can’t wait!
